International Vinegar Festival Plein Air Art Event
What is Plein Air Painting? Plein Air comes from the French term “En plein air” or "open (in full) air". In this type of painting the painter paints what the eye actually sees, reproducing the actual visual conditions seen at the time of the painting. This often creates a more spontaneous look as opposed to studio painting, which might create a more predetermined look.
Northeast South Dakota is an area ready for discovery by the art community. For plein air painters it is a treasure trove of spots with interesting settings filled with light to stir your creative juices and add delight to your artistic palette.
The International Vinegar Festival is adding a plein air painting event to its great line up of attractions this summer. We are inviting artists from around the world to discover the beauty in the northeast corner of South Dakota and reproduce what they see at the time of the painting. The public is invited to come, watch, learn and purchase the paintings.
We have targeted a 100 mile radius from the town of Roslyn inside the state of South Dakota. We are asking people who live in that area to rediscover how beautiful their area is. We want them to send pictures of their rediscoveries and tell us where they are. We will spread the word to artists around the world who we hope will come and try to capture that beauty in their paintings June 10th through 15th. View some examples of plein air sites in the area.
The art community is a sharing community so the public is encouraged to go out and watch the artists create works of art. Why not come and paint together.
To see all of the finished work and have a chance to purchase the paintings, come to the International Vinegar Festival in Roslyn on June 16th, from 10 AM to 3 PM. In addition to the painting, there will be festivities throughout the day. There will also be entertainment, food, a parade and of course lots of excitement at the International Vinegar Museum.
